The Issues

Integrative medicine has long been a goal of many health care providers and people.  A collaboration between conventional medicine and holistic medicine can create an optimal health care environment.  These hopes of a utopic health care system seem to be vanishing at lightening speed.  New legislation is regulating many facets of natural health care into extinction.

The FDA has enacted legislation that will eliminate many nutritional supplements from being made into medicines through over regulation of the compounding pharmacy industry.

The USP (US Pharmacopeia) is creating guidelines for compounding pharmacies that will in effect make it virtually impossible for them to financially function.  These purported purposed of the new guidelines is to ensure safety when safety measures have already been implemented.

The FDA views natural substances that treat similar conditions as an FDA approved drug as redundant and unnecessary as is the case of Curcumin and Bio-Identical Hormones. There is a recent Harvard study which shows that most newly approved FDA drugs seldom provide better effectiveness than older proven drugs yet account for a majority of the drug related hospitalizations and deaths.  Over 30% of new drugs are later recalled by the FDA due to health and safety complications.

Homeopathy is considered to be a dangerous drug by the FDA.  There is new legislation designed to illegalize certain homeopathics and give them control over all others to decide their fate at will.
